In the elderly population, the need and desire to receive a specific type of massage therapy has become increasingly popular. Known as geriatric massage, massage therapists, and their associated spa facilities, are experiencing a phenomenal increase in business and health within their communities. Geriatric massage is a specific massage technique used to treat the most common of ailments in the elderly population. Most often used as a preventative form of therapy, senior adults are benefiting from improved blood circulation and maintained range of motion with the application of geriatric massage, at least, once per week. www.associatedcontent.com Additionally, for those senior adults who do suffer from age related illness, such as Parkinson’s disease, arthritis, diabetes and even heart disease, the use of geriatric massage is improving the circulation of lymphatic fluid and blood, thereby improving these conditions naturally. And what about the psychological impact of geriatric massage? Because many senior adults, today, live in isolation, feeling depressed and lonely, geriatric massage is providing a way for the elderly population to reach out to other individuals and engage in not only physical stimulation but also psychological and emotional support and stimulation. www.balancedhealthtoday.com www

Massage Therapy – Sports Massage Part 1

Learn Massage in hawaii at www.alohamassageschool.com in Maui, Hawaii Massage has become an integral part of the new athletic regimen from sports medicine clinics, to college training rooms, to professional locker rooms to Olympic training. Growing number of trainers believe that massage can provide an extra edge to the athletes who participate in high performance sports. Massage has become a necessary ingredient for a complete workout. More and more people are realizing that a complete workout routine includes not only the exercise itself, but also caring for the wear-and-tear and minor injuries that naturally occur with strenuous movement. The physiological and psychological benefits of massage make it an ideal complement to a total conditioning program. Anyone who routinely stretches their physical limits through movement such as running, cycling, hiking, swimming, dancing, tennis and other racquet sports, strength training and aerobics can benefit from a massage. There are others who does strenuous activities in a day that is not normally classified as exercise. Examples are mothers with small children, gardeners, and others who use their bodies strenuously in their work. Incorporating massage in your conditioning program has many benefits. It helps you get into good shape faster, and with less stiffness and soreness. It helps you recover faster from heavy workouts, and relieves conditions which may cause injury. http

Geriatric Massage: The Next Advancement in Massage Therapy Part 2

vibraboard.info vibraboard.info vibraboard.info When caring for a loved one who often feels isolated and lonely, may or may not suffer from age related health complications, the use of geriatric massage may be the key to unlocking a new lease on life. Using a licensed massage therapist, usually within a spa setting, your loved one will experience a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. And, for those loved ones who are unable to leave home, using geriatric massage, in the home, is equally as effective. With over 50 schools providing licensing in massage therapy, locating a massage therapist, who can perform geriatric massage in the home, is as simple as making a phone call. As the baby boomer population enters the most crucial health period of their lives, it is the healthcare sector that will, most likely, suffer the greatest shortage of supply to the demand of our aging population. With services such as geriatric massage, we can care for our loved ones, as they age, and provide therapeutic benefit to not only their physical structure but also their emotional and psychological well being. www.balancedhealthtoday.com www.balancedhealthtoday.com

Utilization of massage in cases of back and limb disorders we call orthopedic massage. There is no doubt that there is huge room for orthopedic massage available in sport rehabilitative medicine. It is proven that orthopedic massage therapy is a very effective tool in treating sport-related, industrial injuries, as well as helping people experience less pain in cases of degenerative diseases of the support and movement systems such as osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease and other types of spondylosis. Massage Chairs: Strengthen Your Massage Therapy Options

Massage Chairs: Strengthen Your Massage Therapy Options

by Sloane Lockhart

I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I see a masseuse it’s hard to get the exact massage I need. You try to explain what you want get it doesn’t quite do the trick. This is one of the best things I like about my massage chair. I can simply choose the features to activate, the strength and the area to be covered precisely.

Some massage therapists will adjust their massage based on your input while others just seem to ignore your request. Maybe they have massaged too many people that day in are simply tired. All I know is that it is hard to relax when I have to instruct my therapist what to do.

If all the stars align properly, then I may get the exact massage that I need from a masseuse. This usually happens if I find a really good one and I get a good run of sessions with them. However, then one day I find out that they have left and I must start the process all over again.

Have you ever gotten a massage therapist that you to the light and superficial massage? Usually that occurs after they have done a number of sessions and they are becoming tired. He spent an hour getting a light massage that doesn’t penetrate through the muscles to relieve the tension.

If you’re lucky enough to find a good massage therapist grab onto them. The worst is changing massage therapists all the time. This leads to a wide variation of massages with most of them not been very effective. A good massage therapist isn’t one to hold onto.

My massage chair on the other hand, I have to train it once. Once I understand the remote control, believe me I can figure out the rest. I then know what buttons to push to relieve my aches and pains without explanation.

Massage chairs contained a variety of different massage techniques including shiatsu, Swedish, deep tissue, reflexology and acupressure. It is hard to find a massage therapist that can specialize in each of these techniques well.

With the increasing capabilities of massage chairs, hundreds of variations of massages are able to be performed. New massage techniques and movements are being added every year. All of these are available from the same source, as opposed to my massage therapist that may be limited in their knowledge of massage techniques.

The tough thing about any massage therapy from a masseuse is you are dependent on other people and must go to a certain location. You may like a certain location but then you may have to change massage therapists. This has caused me many times to miss appointments where I really needed the relief.

With my massage chair, it is always available 24 hours a day. It is not a question of the massage chair having time for me, but instead is do I have time for it. I can choose the duration of the massage with the massage chair. I can get a five, 15 or 30 minute massage when I need it.

Of course, there are trade-offs between massage chairs and massage therapists. When I get a good or great massage therapists life is wonderful. However, the convenience and the effectiveness of my massage chair provides me with much more reliable treatments over the long term.

Getting a massage chair is an important decision. It is really a long-term wellness decision. There are many great massage chairs on the market today, try a few of them out and you will be surprised at how much the technology has evolved.

Customize your massage any way you like, any time you want with (http://www.massageunlimited.com/index.htm) Massage Chairs. Think how easy it is to get a great massage just the you like. You can find massage chairs that give you therapeutic treatments beyond massage. Melt Away Stress And Tension With The ShoulderFlex Massager

Melt Away Stress And Tension With The ShoulderFlex Massager

by Chris Channing

The Shoulderflex Massager is a comfortable and innovative way to massage the shoulders and relax. This massage is different from other gadgets, because it places importance on your comfort.

The soft material of the massager is a light gray and a bit bigger than the average shoulder size. It weighs around 8 pounds and is easy to carry with you on vacation or anywhere else. This device is sturdy and will not slip around while you are using it. The ShoulderFlex Massager is also easy to use, thanks to the instructional dvd that it comes with.

Once you remove the massager from the packaging, you should watch the DVD. It will instruct you step by step on how to use the product and get the most from the device. It teaches you how to properly use each setting so that you can receive better targeted therapy. Even though regular massages can cost hundreds each month, this is one product that works similarly at a fraction of the price.

If you need deep tissue massages or just a gentle rub, the ShoulderFlex can do it. Cheap devices barely feel like a massage, but this one has ‘fingers’ that can loosen knots and melt away stress in the shoulder area. For many people the shoulders are the areas that receive the most pain and discomfort. The ShoulderFlex can melt away the pains associated with arthritis, stress, and repetitive motion syndrome.

The massager works best when lying down. You only need to place it on the floor and rest your shoulders on the product. Depending on the results you are looking for, you can set the device to work on deep tissue, gentle, or somewhere in between. The wide range of pulses it uses makes it a great universal product that can treat anything from workout soreness or arthritis.

Comparatively, the ShoulderFlex is more affordable. If you desperately need massage therapy, but can’t afford a masseuse, then this product is ideal. It contains several modes that range from deep tissue to a simple spa style massage. Massages at a spa or office can cost quite a bit, and require multiple sessions. The ShoulderFlex is a one time fee and lasts for years.

Closing Comments

This massager can relieve pain and boost your mood. It does everything that your body needs to feel rejuvenated and relaxed, and performs better than other comparable products.

Massage Can Upgrade Your Road To Better Health

Massage Can Upgrade Your Road To Better Health

by Rebecca Littleton

Did you know that massage has been performed for thousands of years? Many different techniques such as acupressure and reflexology have been practiced for thousands of years. The regular application of these and other techniques are very beneficial to your health. There are now a variety of different massage styles and techniques available to soothe and relieve different ailments.

In fact, it seems that massage was developed as a natural response to healing and recovery. Think how instinctive it is to rub a muscle when you bang up against something. Our natural reaction is to move it, flex it and help it reduce the immediate pain. Many techniques were developed simply for everyday use.

I really can’t think of a better way to relieve stress then get a soothing massage. The calmness, that tranquility and the relief is just wonderful. If stress starts to build, it can be released by getting a relaxing massage. It’s better to do this early rather than wait until you are overloaded.

Massage therapy starts with specific ways to relieve muscles and soft tissue areas. Specific movements are used in different areas to stretch, pull, of, penetrate and even elongate these muscles, joints and tendons. Regular applications of these movements which constitute massage are very beneficial in improving the elasticity of the muscle fibers.

There are many techniques that help us feel better. The application of pressure to penetrate through the muscle tissue may be painful initially, but it starts to relieve the stiffness in that muscle area. By applying different techniques, different areas of the body can be relieved.

Many people are challenged to get daily massage therapy. Daily massage therapy is important to really attain the benefits of massage. You cannot expect to exercise wants and have sustained benefits to your body. Massage is no different than exercise. It must be performed on a regular basis.

Getting frequent massage treatments is perhaps the biggest obstacle to getting regular massage. Most people do not have enough time to spend an hour every day at the spa getting a treatment. However, technology has provided an alternative solution, the massage chair.

Technology currently provides a practical alternative to a massage therapist. Massage chairs have advanced software programs which provide many popular massage treatments. It is common to find techniques such as acupressure, shiatsu, Swedish, Hawaiian, reflexology and many more. This gives you a wide variety of choices and options over the long term.

The most enduring feature of massage chairs is that they are convenient. In fact, it is a constant reminder asking you to sit down and get some relaxation and relief. What a great invitation to have every day when you walk past it. Reduce the symptoms of stress at the touch of a button.

The number of massage programs now number in the hundreds for massage chairs. There are hundreds and hundreds of variations in which to choose from. This gives you a variety of treatment options at your disposal. This is important to be able to address your long term health requirements.

The use of massage has been throughout all of time. We have a natural affinity for these movements and techniques to reduce pain, and improve flexibility. Stress Management Guide: Periodic Massage Chair Treatments

Stress Management Guide: Periodic Massage Chair Treatments

There is so much stress in our lives in this modern era that we live in.  We are hit from all sides whether from home or from work.  These pressures seem to be increasing.  In previous eras danger from physical harm was the major cause of stress.  This acute type of stress caused what is called the fight or flight reaction.  We are under less physical danger these days as stress has shifted to more mental stress.  The type of stress has changed, but not our reaction to it.

What happens when we come under stress?  Our body’s natural reactions take over.  Our breathing is increased as well as our heart rate.  The major organs shut down all but the most vital functions to support hands and feet.  Adrenaline is released to get the body primed for taking action.  We feel a nervousness and tension as we are facing the unknown.  All this chemical reaction is occurring with the build up of a physical action about to take place.  However, when the stress is mental there is no physical release.

Stress comes from so many different situations, that we are not able to eliminate its causes.  Rather we need effective stress management techniques.  Professional athletes are able to redirect the build up of stress into ways to enhance their performance.  This is a very positive way to deal with the build up of stress.  The only downside for most of us, is where professional athletes have a physical release of the stress from their bodies with physical exertion, but we may not.

Effective stress management requires a physical outlet to release the chemicals that the body is releasing when under stress.  Physical exertion is one of the best methods, since that is what the body is primed to do.  Another excellent method to release stress is massage therapy.  There are many benefits with massage therapy.  It is great to loosen up tight muscles and relieve tension.  It can relax the organs in the body activated by the stress reaction.  It will release toxins that are in our muscles and help to flush them out of our system.  And best of all it helps us relax our mind and bring harmony back to the body.

A very convenient alternative to going to a massage therapist is a massage chair recliner.  These advanced massage recliners have massage therapies ranging from deep tissue, Shiatsu, sports massage, Swedish and many others.  There are various benefits to each massage type and each may focus on particular benefits.  They will all help relieve discomfort and tension.  They all help your mind to relax.  These treatments enhance the flow of the lymph system and the blood.  Both of these systems filter out chemicals that build up in the body.

Stress comes from our environment and is subject to our interpretation and built up set of reactions.  These cannot be eliminated entirely.  Massage therapy is an essential tool in our stress management toolbox.  Massage chairs are one of the most convenient and effective ways to receive massage therapy.  These recliners have full body capabilities and have many additional features beyond massage.  Many have stretching, music therapy and heat.  These additional features compliment the massage and help to induce total body relaxation.

Imagine the convenience of having your own massage chair recliner at home.  You start to come under stress situations.  You can just sit down and let the massage chair work you over.  Your body starts to feel better and your mind starts to clear.  You now are in a better frame of mind to come up with better ways to overcome the problems at hand.  You now have a powerful stress management tool, your massage chair recliner at your disposal.

Restoring the health of the body and maintaining its vitality has been pursued throughout time. Many massage therapies were developed by ancient medical practitioners. This has been common throughout many different cultures around the world.

Reflexology is the practice of massage and, squeezing and pushing parts of the body to provide relief and stimulate other related organs. Reflexology rests on the theory that by manipulating certain points in the hands and feet it will provide relief to other organs in the body.

Reflexology is considered an alternative medical treatment. It is not known to have any side effects. It is used primarily for relaxing tension in the body. Studies have shown that women are more at risk for developing CTS, or carpal tunnel syndrome, than men are, so it s very important for women to understand what is available for treatment. There are a number of non-invasive treatment options that can effectively treat CTS. By applying regular carpal tunnel massage therapy people with carpal tunnel system can escape the burning pain or throbbing that is associated with CTS. Both men and women can enjoy the benefits of self-administered massage and do carpal tunnel exercises that will greatly reduce their dependence on pain medications. Doing these things can also help them avoid having surgery to reduce the pain.

Researchers are not certain as to why this is, but it is estimated that women are as many as three times more likely to be diagnosed with CTS than men. Some estimate women may be at greater risk simply because a woman’s carpal tunnel is typically smaller than that of the average man. CTS are also a side effect of pregnancy as some women retain fluids that gather in the carpal tunnel prompting pain on sensitive tendons and the median nerve located there.

Others that are at a greater risk of being stricken with carpal tunnel syndrome include people that are obese, have arthritis, or that work for long hours with their hands. Carpal tunnel syndrome doesn’t seem to strike children; rather it mainly hits working adults. The workers on assembly lines, seamstresses, hairdressers and construction workers are commonly diagnosed with DTC.

There is some good news for people that suffer from this painful and sometimes debilitating condition. There are a number of very effective home remedies that can easy the pain and discomfort associated with carpal tunnel syndrome. By doing daily massages to the hands, wrists and forearms for at least twenty minutes, a person should notice a great deal of pain relief within just a few weeks. The massage techniques should include short, pressure filled strokes in order to be effective. If work is done that requires lengthy use of the hands, frequent rest periods are recommended.

In addition to the carpal tunnel massages it is best to also do some carpal tunnel exercises. Not only will the exercises help build the vital muscles in the hands, wrists and arms, but it will promote better circulation which can reducing swelling that may have occurred. Effective carpal tunnel exercise need to included movements that put resistance against the fingers and palms as well as movement exercises that can help the hands and wrists to endure prolonged stretching movements. Doing these exercises and massage treatments consistently can help restore the damaged nerves and tendons.

Many erroneously believe that a diagnosis of CTS gives them limited options and lowers their quality of life unless they agree to surgery. However, as many who have reversed the affects of carpal tunnel syndrome can attest, a proper understanding of what it is and learning how it can be corrected through self-treatment is the welcomed relief that many have been seeking. Exploring options of carpal tunnel massage and exercise is the most empowering choice anyone suffering with this condition will ever make.

How easily can you ease your carpal tunnel symptoms? Try standing up facing a wall.  Reach your fingers up as far as you can, stretching your whole body up.  Now slowly drag your fingers down as you inch your feet away from the wall, keeping your arms straight. Feel better yet?  There are many simple positions you can learn to do to help alleviate the suffering associated with CTS.
